Passenger Information Systems

Visual Passenger Information
The Passenger Information System provides audio and visual information to passengers, via a series of displays located in the main vestibules, at the front and on the side of the train.
Public Address
Incorporates the following functions:
- Train Operator announcements to passengers
- Automatic Announcements to passengers
- Line Controller Announcements to passengers, via the train radio
- Sets SAVU Automatic Volume Control - determined by train speed
- Self Test
- Train Preparation Test (Walk Through)
Real Time operation
When real-time operation is enabled, the real-time audio and visual information accuracy is automatically maintained by the system, based on the route selection, current position taken from the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) interface and backed up with distance measurement, using signals from Wheel Slip Protection (WSP) or door closures.
Passenger Emergency Alarm
This responds to any operation of a Passenger Emergency Alarm (PEA) by flashing control panel lights and signalling to the Train Operator, via the TMS, the identity of the calling PEA. The following SAVU functions are activated via the Train Bus:-
- Illuminates 'Driver Aware' lamp on PEA on command from driver.
- Illuminates 'Speak To Driver' lamp on PEA on command from driver
- Enables 'Passenger Talk back' facility on command from driver
- Self Test facility
Train Crew Communications
In addition to the audio / visual functionality, the typical system incorporates train crew communication functionality including:
